If you’re like me, and live in a State where it gets down into the negatives, we struggle big time with being able to bear the freezing temps. Well, I experienced this over the weekend, and I wasn’t very happy about it since I wasn’t able to take them outside, so I decided to create a list of alternative places to take photos (for next time) when it’s too cold to take them outside. You could also use an ai image to video generator to create interesting visual content indoors when outdoor photography isn’t an option.
- Take them inside your home. Find a plain wall in your home and use that as your background. If you are wanting a white background, put a white sheet in front of it.
- Use a photography studio. Maybe your photographer or someone you know that takes photos would be kind enough to let you take photos there. On the plus side, you can pick what backgrounds you want to use, such as a kid photo backdrop, and even use some props. Contact a Headshot photographer in Detroit if you want your headshots to be professionally taken. You may also use a remove watermark ai tool to help remove watermarks from your photos. If you also plan to set up your own photography business, it is worth considering to invest in a Photography Business Management Software for better management of your admin tasks.
- Take them inside a barn. Barns aren’t the warmest to take photos, but its better than being outside. Barns are so pretty and I love the rustic feel of them.
- Find a pretty hotel and take pictures there. Flagstaff hotels would be perfect, especially if there was a staircase and you were wearing a beautiful dress.

What a great post!! LOVE the idea of a pretty hotel.
I am lucky to go to college in a city that doesn’t have the worst winter season, but I am originally from Maine, and when I go home at Christmas every year it’s SO hard to do outfit photos!! Too cold!

Thanks Brittney! I don’t mind shooting in the cold, but when we have a wind chill of -30, its just too unbearable! Let me know if you end up shooting in a hotel. I would love to see how the photos turn out! 🙂

Great tips! I have actually been looking for ideas for what to do photo wise when it gets cold. I am such a weenie when it gets cold (I’m talking about anything below 55 degrees) so being outside taking pictures is the worst for me! Thanks for sharing!

I am a baby when it comes to told weather too! I would rather live in Miami where it is warm all the time. 55 degrees?! That’s nothing! I would totally be happy if it was 55 right now!
Kayla says
Such a good idea! I often feel like I get stuck in a rut when it’s too cold to take photos outside for my blog. It’s good to know options are out there!

These are good suggestions for bloggers. I live not too far from a university, so I also find that taking photos in their classrooms and arches works well!

That’s a good idea too! I don’t live far from a university either!

These are great tips/ideas, especially this time of year! I may have to try some of these out with different lighting and lenses to see how they work 🙂

Girl, I just had a 2 hour photo shoot outside last weekend, and immediately after, my photographer and I decided we’re going to the museum next month! LOL. Its just far too cold outside to play with photos and outfits like that! This is a great list, too. I need to find a barn near me! =)
amanda.glandorf94@gmail.com says
Wow, 2 hours?! How many looks did you shoot?! If its not 32+ degrees outside, I’m not taking photos, lol.

Such a great list of alternative places to take photos!! When it is too cold to shoot outside, I use a plain wall inside my condo but going to a hotel sounds great!!

Thanks Amanda! A home office is a good idea to take photos. Once my office is finished, I will have to do that.

Great alternatives! Most of my photos aren’t taken outside, even though it’s not that cold. I just don’t have a true photographer to take photos of me outside haha! Love these options xx adaatude.com

Thanks Adaleta! You could always have your boyfriend take them for you 🙂

This is such a great idea–I hadn’t ever considered a hotel or barn. Mostly I use my dorm room. We have extra plain white walls.

Love all these ideas! It can get so cold in the winter time and taking pictures outside is such a pain. I have been trying to find ways to take pictures inside my house so I am going to be putting up a little place in a corner to take some nice photos!

It really is! I’m glad we have been having better weather to take photos outside. That’s a good idea!
